Ongoing regional conflicts—particularly the war in Gaza—have deeply disrupted the travel and tourism industry, affecting livelihoods and slowing recovery efforts across several countries. In Jordan, tourism revenue declined by 2.3% in 2024, with a 3.9% drop in visitor numbers compared to the previous year. Egypt's economy has also been impacted, with the International Monetary Fund noting a reduction in projected economic growth from 3.3% to 2.6% in 2024, partly due to decreased tourism and disruptions in maritime trade. Lebanon experienced a sharp 32% drop in tourist arrivals in 2024, largely driven by the war between Israel and Hezbollah, leading to widespread economic repercussions for the country's tourism sector.
Governments and private sectors in countries like Bahrain, Oman, and Jordan are laying the groundwork for tourism that respects their natural and cultural heritage. At The Global Impact Studio, we are committed to supporting these efforts by providing tailored design services that help these organizations adapt and thrive in a post-conflict environment.
Our initiative aims to equip travel and tourism companies in the Middle East with the tools they need to rebuild and innovate. By offering discounted design services, we hope to alleviate some of the burdens these organizations face, allowing them to focus on their core mission of promoting cultural exchange and economic development. Together, we can contribute to the region's recovery and help pave the way for a more sustainable and resilient tourism industry.
Despite these challenges, travel and tourism companies across the Middle East are demonstrating resilience. Many are focusing on sustainable tourism practices, investing in digital transformation, and preparing for a future resurgence in travel.
Armed conflicts are such a tragedy, and so is the loss of any innocent life. History shows us that wars don't start on battlefields, but they start in our individual hearts. As Russell M. Nelson, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, proclaimed, "I plead with you to do all you can to end personal conflicts that are currently raging in your hearts and in your lives."
Our power lies in our ability to keep our hearts soft, our minds open, and our actions rooted in compassion—even when the world around us hardens. We pray collectively for this tragic war to end and for all those who are suffering because of this armed conflict.
